Ethical standards and declaration of good practices

The SYbIL is an academic journal that publishes scientific papers and assumes a firm commitment to comply with the ethical standards and good practices. The editor of the SYbIL, and his Committee editorial are responsible for determining and maintaining the following standards in the process selection and acceptance of submitted contributions, as well as assuming the responsibilities arising from the publication process. They also undertake to ensure the ethics and scientific and academic quality of the journal, and that all parties involved accept and respect the principles that follow.

 

Obligations of the authors

The authors of the articles must respect the following obligations, as well as comply with the instructions for authors that can be found on the website of the SYbIL and that are included in each number.

The authors agree to submit manuscripts that are not subject to consideration or that have been previously submitted to other publications, and to submit them to an anonymous review process. The investigation must have been developed in accordance with ethical standards and included in the publication, so that Sufficient information is provided to allow academic replication.

All authors they must mention the sources of financing that have allowed them to carry out the research and achieve relevant results, as well as the possible influence of these in the same Submitted articles must be works completely originals and, in the event that the authors have used the work and/or fragments of others, these must be properly cited, according to the indications above referred.

Any form of plagiarism constitutes a practice contrary to these good practices and will not be accepted under any circumstances. Authors must not plagiarize, practice by which it will be understood a literal or near literal copy, a paraphrase of the text or the results of the research of other authors. It is not appropriate for an author to submit more than one work in which the same investigation, unless it is a referral of a rejected article for publication in another journal. In the event of becoming aware of a fundamental error or material inaccuracy in the works already published, the authors must communicate them to the journal.

 

Ethical obligations of publishers

The editors are responsible for compliance with the aforementioned obligations, they must ensure the scientific and academic quality of the SYbIL, and they are primarily responsible for the legality of intellectual property, copyright, infringement and plagiarism.

The editor must respect the intellectual independence of the authors and consider all the originals submitted for publication, assessing each one of the contributions objectively. He is also responsible for guaranteeing authors and reviewers that the manuscripts will be submitted to an anonymous review process. The final decision and responsibility for the acceptance or rejection of an original will rest with the Editorial Committee.

It is the obligation of the editors to look for reviewers, who will be chosen based on their prestige, knowledge and good judgment, and will assess the scientific quality of the papers submitted to the journal. However, papers may be rejected for publication without external review if, in the opinion of the editors, the paper is inappropriate for publication in the journal. This decision must be based on the inadequacy of the work to the content and the line of the SYbIL, the lack of topicality or sufficient interest, the formal incorrectness, or any other reason related to the scope of the SYbIL,. The articles, therefore, will be valued solely based on their content, regardless of commercial interests and without ethnic, racial, ideological, religious, gender or any other discrimination towards the author.

The editors must communicate the results of the evaluation reports to the authors without revealing any type of information about the identity of the reviewers, but they will inform the criteria used by them when evaluating the work with a view to its publication.

The members of the Editorial Board and any other editor must not reveal any type of information about an original submitted for consideration to anyone other than those from whom academic or scientific advice is requested. Confidentiality must be protected in any case during the review process (from the reviewers to the author, and vice versa). The editors will refrain from participating in the evaluation and any other editorial process that includes manuscripts in the event of having a conflict of interest due to a possible competitive, collaborative or other type of relationship with any of the authors of the submitted manuscript.

Unpublished information, arguments or interpretations contained in an original submitted to the journal may not be used in research carried out by the editors.

 

Obligations of reviewers

Reviewers have the duty to objectively judge and assess the quality of the originals, as well as their originality, placing special emphasis on maintaining scientific quality and scientific standards. Reviewers help editors in decision making and can assist authors in improving papers.

The reviewer will advise the editor of any substantive similarity between the manuscript under review and any similar article or manuscript submitted or published in any other journal or publisher.

Reviewers must act appropriately, submitting their assessment report within the established period, even approximately. When a proposed reviewer considers that he is not the appropriate or suitable person to assess the submitted research or that he knows that it will not be possible to meet the deadlines for the review, he must notify the editor and excuse himself as soon as possible.

Reviewers must treat an original submitted for review as a confidential document. It should never be shown or discussed with third parties, except in exceptional cases in which people who can provide scientific or academic advice may be consulted; in these cases, the identities of the people consulted must be revealed to the editor.

 

Corrections and retraction

In the event of recognizing any data or information published in the SYbIL as false, erroneous, misleading or fraudulent, the editors must inform the authors of these circumstances and wait for a response from them before making an editorial decision. In case of not being satisfied with the answer or if there is none, the editors may decide to retract what was published with the agreement of the Editorial Board.

The SYbIL will deal with any claim and complaint about the content published through the address editor@sybil.es. The editors undertake to follow up and proceed with the review and, where appropriate, retraction if necessary.

When a retraction or correction of what is published in the journal is appropriate, the editors will be guided by the principles contained in the Guidelines for Retracting Articles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)
