Abstract

The author raises and reflects on a series of questions to try to understand a phenomenon that began in 1989 and has only grown more pronounced since II September 2001. Specifically, “Western civilization”, spearheaded by the United States of America, has championed the creation of a universal City of God, which, the author contends, is above the law and justice. However, what this civilisation truly advocates is a paradise for the few, with the aim of consolidating a hegemonic unilateralism that will ultimately exclude the rest of humanity. The author argues that the UN’s standing is the last hope for the pacification and democratization of international relations through international humanitarian law and human rights.
